Edie’s Place, takes emphasis on different residential aspects in an attempt to create a peaceful sanctuary, sheltered from the outside world. Whether its the exposed hardwood rafters, large doors & windows, intricate library nook, cozy consult rooms or breathtaking landscaping, the space is a great representation of Arc. 's craftsmanship and collaboration with BVN.
A specific structural design intent was to repurpose the existing columns and roof structure in an attempt to retain the existing footprint. This meant that facade elements needed to be designed and constructed to fit within the previous envelope.
A commercial space with the intent to be as homely as possible, Edie’s Place offers a number of unique elements that provide a feeling of warmth and comfort. No other feature is able to achieve this better than the external window hoods. While these impressive works of craftsmanship look fantastic and highlight the natural aspects of the hardwood, they also provide a sheltered view to the outside garden from the consult rooms. The internal courtyard shade blades are another way the build hides the commercial feel and gives rise to the comfort of a residential dwelling. The two 5m long blades give a reflective surface for natural light to bounce from and penetrate the courtyard glazing. The acoustic separation between each individual space was paramount to the success of the project and is a highlight of the communication between Arc. & BVN.
The project is able to find the line between meeting strict commercial compliance guidelines and enhancing the beauty of natural elements like the natural hardwood and the running brook stream that wraps the perimeter of the building.
